The Bellevue is not a theme hotel, pretending to be 'Tibetan' or 'Traditional' and merely decorated to look the part. It IS a Tibetan hotel, a private hotel, owned and run by a Tibetan Buddhist family.

The Bellevue Hotel is different. The rooms are not the same hotel rooms you find repeated all over the world - all the Bellevue's rooms are different. Our guests come from all over the world - and come back - for the quiet friendliness of the Bellevue.

"Sur les conseils de nos amis nous posons nos sacs à l'hôtel Bellevue tenu par Lawang Pulger, un réfugié tibétain d'environ 80 ans avec une bouille pas possible. En passant dans le hall, nous voyons de vieilles photos du Tibet : Tout notre voyage, mais 50 ans avant. Notre hôte, ravi de voir notre interêt pour le Tibet, commence à nous raconter sa vie: Son grand-père était très proche du XIIIe Dalai Lama qui l'a dépêché dans plusieurs missions diplomatiques. Lawang a guidé des expéditions commerciales entre Lhasa et Darjeeling. - Après cette petite revue tibétaine nous découvrons notre chambre. Certains nous comprendront: Après trois mois passés à dormir dans des hôtels de routards, le simple fait de casser sa tirelire pour se retrouver dans une chambre avec des meubles qui décorent, c'est du gros bonheur."
